Drag and Drop
Drag and drop exercises present a more interactive alternative to traditional rating and sorting questions. Instead of clicking on a scale (or on a group) next to each statement/concept/image, respondents use their mouse to drag and drop items around their screen.
Some researchers have suggested that the more interactive an exercise is, the more likely a respondent is to pay attention and provide a more well-considered response. But the verdict is still out on whether or not drag and drop exercises result in different or better data than from more traditional rating and sorting questions. Our own research-on-research supports what we've seen presented at recent conferences: these interactive question types take respondents longer to complete and do not typically produce different results.
